Zeenat Nieftagodien holds an Honours Degree in Psychology from the University of the Western Cape and is a Registered Counsellor (Independent Practice – PRC 0015687) and Registered Psychometrist (Independent Practice – PMT 0088498) with the HPCSA. In addition to the above, she is qualified school teacher and has taught locally in various capacities which includes but is not limited to: mentoring and supervision of university graduates, facilitating introductory courses to school learners and mentoring youths in disadvantaged/underprivileged communities.

Zeenat completed her Counselling internship at the Saartjie Baartman Centre for abused Women and Children providing trauma counselling and providing general psycho-education to both parents and their children. The exposure obtained at the centre manifested her interest in child development through all life phases. Following her internship and a period at a private practice, Zeenat returned to the Saartjie Baartman Centre to manage a Children’s counselling project for abused Women and Children for a period of three years. Her keen interest in Community psychology and child/youth development saw the project progress extensively during her tenure. Her duties included, but not limited to the following: Project management, Counselling (aged 3-17 years) on domestic violence and various associated age group challenges, spokesperson (media both radio and television interviews on effectiveness of counselling, domestic violence, relationships and child related matters). The management of the project resulted in her inclusion of the management team of the organization. Her responsibilities in the management role also encompassed the mentoring and supervision of local and foreign interns.

Drawing on her acquired skills in the field of education, she furthermore has a special interest in the school careers of individuals and with her Psychometric internship training/registration obtained at the Claremont Practice is able to provide services regarding psychometric testing to facilitate decisions in accordance with school readiness, subject choice and possible learning difficulties.

Other areas of interest include Substance abuse counselling, Play therapy, Skills training, Family and marriage counselling as well as Parental guidance.
