Kerry AchesonKerry Acheson
Kerry Acheson holds a Masters (Cum Laude) in Psychology from Rhodes University and has been a registered Counselling Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa since 2008 (PS0106321). Kerry has an interest in the field of positive psychology, and this led her to do her Masters dissertation on the phenomenon of posttraumatic growth. Kerry completed her internship at the Rhodes University Counselling Centre, where she provided psychotherapy to students. Kerry was initially trained in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural (CBT) approaches to therapy, but has pursued on-going training in narrative therapy, which most informs her therapeutic style.
In 2016, Kerry branched out into the world of life coaching, completing the Advanced Diploma in Practitioner Coaching course through The Coaching Centre. She has found that combining her experience and skills as a therapist and life coach has been highly complementary. To read further more about life coaching, please see the Life Coaching section of this website and also read Kerry’s article on her coaching model.
Kerry is also a qualified school teacher, and has experience teaching psychology and counselling learners, both locally and in the UK. Kerry has conducted therapeutic groups in a children’s home, and has facilitated workshops with teachers on stress management and childhood bereavement and trauma.
